Maats Affiliated Clubs
Maats is much more than a store for cool cycling things. Maats is also a place where many people gather to cycle together. Despite the fact that we organize many events ourselves, we also form a hub for smaller and larger initiatives from our regulars. Through Maats, several active local cycling clubs have arisen. We double as a clubhouse, where the groups start and finish their rides. Below we would like to introduce you to the Maats Affiliated Clubs.
No Ordinary Women Cycling Club
NOW.cc defines themselves as "a group of women cyclists who ride together, challenge each other, but above all have loads of fun''. In 2021, a couple of female Maats regulars started this club, to counterweigh the male domination of the cycling world, and promote the discipline with female and non-binary riders. All year long, an ever-growing group of enthusiasts frequently meets up at Maats to start a ride that traditionally ends with pizza and drinks. You can show your interest in joining through the Instagram channel of NOW.cc.
No Breakfast Cycling Club
The NBCC has been around since 2018. Every Tuesday and Friday morning, as early as 6.30am, a group of speedloving riders venture on the same route every single time: the famous Ronde Hoep. Throughout the years, the speed has gone up and up, so PR & KOM attempts are often the centre of focus within this group of riders. The most important motivation for the participants however remains the crispy, stunning sunrise!
After each ride, Maats opens at 7.30am to serve coffee alongside the stories evolving from the attacks, drop-outs, and of course the final sprint of that morning's ride. The NBCC proudly has their own stickers, and even custom socks! Care to join? You're most welcome to! That is, if you can get up that early, and... don't lose the wheel ;)
100 Miles Club
During the summer of 2021 a group of riders, headed by the illustrous Maats friends duo Frans & Gert, initiated a monthly ultra-ride: a long day in the saddle of minimum 100 miles, 161km. Ever since, a sizable group of Maats regulars now frequently meets up to ride routes like the Rondje Markermeer, and the Stelling van Amsterdam.
The 100 Miles Club welcomes you to join one of their rides, for which you can register by contacting the ride leaders through the Strava group below. Rides adhere a no-drop policy, are averaging 28 km/h and always include a lunch and coffee break.
