This late summer, Maats Local Loops is heading across the border for an exciting three-day trip to Germany. Expect a perfect mix of cycling, beer, and bratwurst as we explore new roads. We're starting up the Maats Sprinter and organizing three Local Loops in three vibrant German cities in one weekend.  On this page we tell you all about it.

• Meeting Point: Sunday morning at 10:00 AM, Colonge city center (location TBC)
• Ride: 100 km road ride through the region, expertly designed by Local Legend Jan Recker 
• Mid-Ride Break: The Maats Sprinter will be on hand with coffee, cold drinks, and snacks
• Post-Ride: We'll gather at a local brewery to enjoy some well-deserved drinks

Monday August 26th, 10:00 Maastricht

When we started Maats a few years ago, Monday was our only day off for a long period. Because we started Maats from the love for cycling, there was always riding that day. On the day when most people were in the office or at work, we rode our bikes every Monday. Maats Monday was born.

In recent years we rode some cool routes during Maats Mondays. We often got the question from people if they could join. Thats why we are organizing the Maats Monday: Limburg Edition, on Monday August 26th.

This year we organise this Maats Monday classic in collaboration with our friend from Off the Map. A brandnew bikestore in the center of Maastricht that is recently opened and the place to go for a new bike, repairs and a fresh new Canvas kit. 

Would you like to ride with us on Maats Monday? Take a day off, buy a ticket and arrange your transport to Limburg. We'll see you there for a wonderful day of cycling.

Monday, April 14th, 10:00 Oudenaarde

Previously, Mondays at Maats were always dedicated to a bike ride with the crew since our shops are closed and for most people the new work week starts. Out of love for cycling we always wanted to spend this day well by going for a nice loop: Maats Monday was born. 

Last year, we organized the very first official Maats Monday for our community in Limburg, which was a huge success. It was a beautiful and unforgettable day on the bike with a big group of our community.
That left us wanting more! So this year, we’re heading to the heart of Belgian cycling for the second edition, which will be a Member Exclusive Event: Maats Monday: Flanders! 

On Monday, April 14th, we start in Oudenaarde, which is the beating heart of the Flanders region. Expect an epic ride over the legendary climbs and cobbles of the Tour of Flanders.
Want to be well-rested at the start? There is an option to book a hotel room at Hotel Leopold in Oudenaarde for the night of Sunday, April 13th to Monday, April 14th. Costs for a hotel room is €125 (single) or €145 (double), breakfast included.

Thursday May 9 - 15:30 - Purmerplein, Amsterdam Noord

On Thursday, May 9 (Ascension Day) you will find us at de Ronde van het Purmerplein in Amsterdam Noord. A local and popular cycling event with a long history. Besides the races there is a market and a varied program organized around it by residents and local initiatives. A nice day out all about cycling! You'll love it!

Maats will organize one of the races during de Ronde van het Purmerplein. We present you  the Maats Rookie Race. A criterium style open street race for everyone who is not very experienced in riding these types of races but who would like to give it a try.

The riders who have a racing license start in a different category and this competition is intended for people who love to ride their bike and would like to test him/her-self in a criterium and perhaps go home with the cup and flowers.  Who knows....

We will organise one race but we have three different classifications: Men, Women and Non-Binary. Please be aware that these kind of events are for people who are new to racing, not for people who are new to cycling... Some experience with high-speed rinding ing groups is recommended.

Participation costs €12.50 and you will receive a starting ticket, bib number, snacks and drinks, photos and prizes for the winners.

At Maats, we are beyond proud to welcome you in 3 different stores since this year, which is why we want to organize something epic and something unique.

Let's connect the Cycling Culture between Amsterdam - Utrecht - Rotterdam, dedicating one ride to all 3 Maats stores.
On Sunday, May 25th, we'll organize a big epic ride where all three of our shops will 'serve' as stops along the way! 

Choose your starting point: Maats Amsterdam, Maats Utrecht, or Maats Rotterdam. All three groups roll out at 09:30 and follow a ~190 km route that takes you past every Maats store along the way.

Coffee is ready from 09:00 at all three locations, and when you arrive at each store during the route, some snacks and fresh drinks and warm coffee will be waiting for you to refuel.

After the ride, we’ll wrap up with cold beers and soft drinks — because after 190 km, you’ve earned it! 

Sign up via the booking tool — we’ll send the final details and route file to all registered riders in the days before the event. Registration is required.

Following Friday night’s film screening, we’re continuing the celebration of Albion’s launch at Maats with a special social ride from our Utrecht store on Saturday 18 May.

Join the Albion team and ambassadors for an 80 km mixed terrain group ride through the scenic routes of the Utrechtse Heuvelrug. Expect a relaxed pace, a mix of tarmac and gravel, and the kind of ride that perfectly reflects Albion’s spirit of adventure.

Pas Normal Studios: Midsummer Challenge 2025

This summer, we will host the PNS Midsummer challenge once again. This challenge is all about one thing: a long day out on the bike, pushing ourselves to the limit. To accomplish the challenge, you have to log a >200 km ride between 21 - 30 June and we are giving you the chance to conquer this challenge: 

Join us and PNS brand ambassador & Maats friend Rik de Voogd on a 220 km journey on Saturday 21 June, starting from Maats Rotterdam! As usual, the Maats Sprinter will serve as support along the way, carrying plenty of snacks and drinks.

With the successful Grand Opening party and group ride still fresh in our minds, it's already time to bring some Maats culture to Rotterdam: the notorious Pizza Rides! For the past years, pizza rides have been a permanent event in our summer event schedule and since this will be the first edition in our new Rotterdam store, we wanted to make this a special one. 

We organize the first Rotterdam Pizza Ride in collaboration with our close friends from Pas Normal Studios. Over the years, we’ve hosted many events with Pas Normal Studios, and this time we’re bringing the community together once again for a fun and social evening on the bike, so we could celebrate the Rotterdam opening together. 

Join us for a 55 km group ride, followed by delicious pizza and ice-cold drinks to wrap up the evening in style. Since this will be the first (of many) pizza rides in Rotterdam, pizza and beers are on us!

To celebrate this, we are organizing a Maats x PNS 2.0 Launch weekend and you a more than welcome!

Friday evening 6pm, we kick-off the Launch Weekend in our store in Amterdam. There will be a PNS crew coming over for the party and we love to show you our new and updated PNS corner in our store. 

We will make sure there will be plenty of drinks, snacks and music, and we might even provide some special Maats x PNS 2.0 Launch Casual items. The party is free and you are more than welcome to join, please register so we know that you're coming.

The 2023 edition of the Maats x Pas Normal Studios race is planned for Saturday September 9th.

This event is to celebrate the collab between Maats Cycling Culture and apparel brand Pas Normal Studios from Copenhagen. Racing is in the DNA of the Danish brand and that is why we organize a Maats x PNS race in Amsterdam for the fifth year in a row already! We will make this a special festive edition.

This event is an accessible way to get in touch with racing. There are people who have experience with this, but it is also a perfect event for people who are new to racing. The race consists of a 15 minute warm-up and this is perfect for getting used to the track and to riding in a peloton. No worries about the level, it is a friendly race and suitable for most cyclists.

Friday 21 June 2024 

Starting Point: Amsterdam, Utrecht or Zwolle

Maats and Pas Normal Studios would like to invite you to complete the Midsummer Challenge on the longest day of the year: Friday June 21st. We are challenging everyone to ride 200km+ in one go - come join us for a long epic day in the saddle.

The concept is simple: we will take full advantage of the longest day of the year and ride a longer route of no less than 235km. You can choose to start either from our store in Amsterdam, Utrecht or from Ride Fast Bikeshop (our newest shop-in-shop location near Zwolle).

We are organizing the event in cooperation with our premium brand Pas Normal Studios. Brand ambassador Rik de Voogd will join us on the ride from Amsterdam.

All groups ride the same route and have at least two stops. The group that departs from Maats Utrecht, stops in Zwolle and Amsterdam and finishes again in Utrecht. Riders from Amsterdam first go to Utrecht, then Zwolle. During the instore breaks we'll provide food, snacks and drinks. Upon your return, cold beers will be waiting at the finish line.
