Maats Travels: Alps June 2024

Maats loves organizing events. We do this to inspire people on- and off the bike with rides pn special locations. We organize events and trips like these for our community: Maats customers and people who would like to become one. This event is not intended for people who only attend the events we organize, but we want to experience these types of adventures that we regularly see in our stores and, if they live a little further away, order online from us.

If you ride in the mountains, there will be a difference in level more quickly than on the flat. Last year there was certainly a difference in level between the first and the last rider to reach the top. However, this was no problem at all and we waited for each other. This year the group is expected to be bigger (30 instead of 15 participants), so we will divide the groups into different levels.On every ride there is also an option for a longer and shorter distance.

The area we are going to is part of the Haute Alps. This area is often visited by the Tour de France and is known for mythical cols such as the Galibier, Col d'Izoard and Col de Angel. The routes in combination with the lesser-known cols that make this a very diverse and challenging area.

There are a total of 30 places available for this trip. All participants sleep in the Saint Roch hotel in Puy-Saint-Vincent. This hotel is equipped with modern rooms, all with sufficient space and a private bathroom and balcony. You will share this room with 1 or 2 (separate beds) other participants, of course you can indicate your preference for a roommate.

You will lack nothing during your stay in France. Every day starts with an extensive breakfast buffet designed for athletes. You sometimes have lunch when you return to the hotel after your ride and otherwise somewhere on top of a col. In the evening you can enjoy a delicious 3-course dinner put together by chef Anne. This trip is of course all about cycling, but it will also be a culinary highlight.

During our stay we can make use of all the hotel facilities such as bike storage, a workshop, bar, restaurant, sauna, jacuzzi and swimming pool.

For people who choose to fly to the Alps, there is an option to have your bicycle taken with the Maats Sprinter. There are 10 places available for this. If you want to use this, you can indicate this when you book. Before you leave, you bring your bicycle to one of our stores in Amsterdam or Utrecht and we will take it to France for you. Your bicycle will be ready for you upon arrival and we will transport it back after the trip. We do this according to the first come/first serve principle. If you want to make use of this offer let us know in the comments of your booking.

Check-in is on Sunday afternoon and the first ride is scheduled for Monday morning. We open the event on Sunday evening with a joint dinner. It is also possible to arrive early on Sunday, drop your belongings at the hotel and start cycling. When you return, you check in and go to your hotel room and prepare for dinner.
