Maats Girona Gravel Trip

Mid-October 2019 we went to Girona with the lovely Maats crew for a long weekend of gravel cycling. On this page you'll read all about the routes we rode, the (cycling) life in Girona and the best place to stay!

Stage #1: 57 km./515 alt.

After a very early flight on Thursday morning we were riding around noon. We did a short gravel-intro-ride heading south of Girona.

Stage #2: 82 km./948 alt.

Day two started with a very steep gravel climb named Cal Dineret. After this we headed east for a lunch ride at Rustik café in Emporda before we rode back.

Lifestyle

Girona off the Bike

It shouldn't be a surprise that Girona is a hub for professional cyclists from all over the planet. G-town is the perfect base for training with its diverse roads and ideal climate. Another big contributing factor that make the pro's stick to G-town is the abundance of cafés, restaurants and cycling stores.

Stage #3: 85 km./1250 alt.

Day 3 was the queen stage of our trip. We rode the same route as the second stage of Traka, the new gravel event in Girona. Lots of climbing, technical gravel sections and heaps of fun.

Check the Strava file. Download here the GPX route.

Stage #4: 77 km./1225 alt.

On our last day we paid a visit to the Dos Kiwis brewery which is located not too far from Girona. Our own Kiwi Johanna was more than happy with this trip. So was the rest.
