Maats Cycling Culture
Maats loves to ride, sharing time together on the bike to connect, to meet new people and catch up with friends. Maats invites you to join our Utrecht community rides!
What is our Advanced Ride?
This ride is meant for more experienced riders, who are comfortable with maintaining a faster pace.
If someone is struggling, we'll bring the pace down a little bit. If some people have to wait at a traffic sign, we all wait at the other side of the street. In Dutch there is a saying: “Samen uit, samen thuis”, which means we’ll stick together and leave no one behind, from departure till arrival.
General Rules
Respect traffic rules
What is the level? What do we expect from you?
Although we love all cyclists, Maats Rides might be unsuitable for absolute beginners. If you register for our rides, we expect you to be able to ride continuously (no breaks) for a minimum of 2+ hours on the indicated paces. Experience with group rides is a plus but not a requirement.
Routes:
The routebook for our rides consists of approx. eight fixed routes that are well planned and recon'ed from time to time. Route lengths vary from 70-80km. Routes are designed for variety, safety and an optimal riding experience with groups. Routes will not be adjusted midway unless there are construction works etc. This will always happen in consultation with the ride leader.
How to join:
By scanning or clicking the below QR-code, you will enter the Maats Utrecht Community Ride Whatsapp group, where all weekly rides will be announced. In this group, you can indicate if you want to join a ride by responding to a poll. This poll will be posted a couple of days before the ride. EVENT IS POSTPONED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE
In April 2023 it was exactly 5 years ago that we opened our store at the van Woustraat in Amsterdam. To celebrate this, we are organizing 5 amazing events this summer. These are events that are in line with the things we have done with Maats in recent years or events that we have wanted to organize for a long time and for which this is the perfect reason. On this page you can find all the info about the events.
Midsummer Race - Friday June 30
When you think of bike races you automatically come to club races. Individual, performance driven and straight home after the race. We think it would be cool to make a combination between racing and also a bit of community and fun. That is why we organize a Midsummer race on friday evening, followed by a bbq and some drinks with friends.
We gather at 19:00 at sports park de Weren in Amsterdam Noord. After a short ride briefing, we ride as a group for a warm-up period for 30 minutes. After ringing the bell, we ride a race of 60 minutes for the men and 45 minutes for the women (combined in one race). Afterwards prize ceremony, beers and burgers from the Maats Bus.
Don't feel like racing but want to watch and cheer on the riders? Buy a Spectator ticket for cheering and the bbq.
For who is this race? For all Maats customers/community members who like to race and test themselves on a closed circuit, with or without race experience.

Local Legends
Who better to ask to create a local route than a Local Legend? We have a few friends that comes from Den Haag or live there and would like to show us around. They help us out with creating the perfect route, tell us where to stop for coffee and know where you can best finish your ride for cold beers and snacks. We will tell you more about these local legends when the date comes closer.

Streetwear meets Cycling apparel.
Rotterdam breathes raw energy, creativity, and style – and WOEI Rotterdam has been at the heart of that for years. As one of the most iconic streetwear stores in the Netherlands, WOEI is more than just a place to score the latest sneakers. It’s a cultural hub, known for curating community, celebrating individuality, and always staying true to its roots.
At Maats, we believe in the power of community too. That’s why teaming up with WOEI feels like a perfect match. We both care about quality, connection, and doing things with purpose and style. So this summer, we’re merging our communities for a relaxed summer ride to celebrate our shared love for the city, the culture, and the road.
Join us on Sunday, July 27th for the very first WOEI x Maats: Summer Ride. We’ll kick things off at Maats Rotterdam with great coffee, after which we roll out for a ~100km social ride. After the ride, it's time to hang out on the backyard behind our shops, where some iced popsicles, fresh cold sodas and (alcohol free) beers are waiting for you. Stick around to chill, refresh and celebrate summer together with us.
P.S. This is also your opportunity to purchase a one time limited edition Maats x WOEI water bottle, which will be released after the ride. Stock is limited, so make sure to book your spot!
On Sunday 27 July, you're invited for the ride:

From the minute Maats opened its doors in Rotterdam, Man Met Brill koffie supports us with its outstanding, and arguably the finest coffee on the market. Home to the city of Rotterdam, Man Met Bril Koffie is a renowned specialty coffee roastery with a café and since February: a hotel! (fun fact: it is the first coffee focused hotel in the world).
Over the years, the brand has become a favorite among coffee lovers in the region, not only for its excellent brews but also for its stylish, industrial-style café and its community-oriented philosophy. A philosophy Maats fully supports, which is why we want to combine our communities with a nice and easy bike ride and lunch afterwards!
At the start of each new season, Man Met Bril and Maats are hosting a bike ride to ride into the new season with our communities. We start at Maats Rotterdam for an almost perfectly brewed Man Met Bril coffee and end the ride at the brand new hotel of Man Met Bril for a special lunch with an even better coffee, this time from trained baristas ;-).
On Sunday 22 June, you're invited for our first seasonal ride: Summer vibes!

Sunday 06-09, Col du Vam, Drenthe.
Social rides, trips abroad, spring classics — but as summer draws to a close, it's time to settle the score. Who gets to call themselves the Maats Membership Champ (m/v) of the 2026?
Introducing the first official Maats Membership Championship.
We’re bringing the event to one of the most iconic climbs in Dutch cycling: the Col du VAM. Rising from the Drenthe countryside, this unique climb was born from an unlikely origin, a former landfill site transformed into a legendary cycling challenge.
With an average gradient of 9.1%, the Col du VAM delivers a true test of power and endurance, taking riders up to 48 metres above sea level.
The venue has hosted the Dutch National Championship on multiple occasions, so it's a proven championship course. The perfect setting to find out who's been putting in the work.
We gather Sunday morning at 10:00 for coffee and a social group ride of around 75km around the area. After returning to the Col du Vam, we take to the track for a few laps to decide once and for all who takes the title.
After the racing, we celebrate with a BBQ, beers, and an official prize ceremony.
This event is open to all members — whether you're here to race, to ride, or just to cheer on the competition, you're more than welcome.

At Maats, we don’t just stock brands; we hunt for the exceptions. The unique drops that stop us in our tracks. Laser Barcelona has been firmly on our radar for a while now, quietly producing some of the most rad, authentic independent apparel in Europe. When they announced their latest project, we knew we had to bring a piece of Barcelona's underground culture directly to you.
Laser’s signature The Rawal Artist Series invites global creatives to portray one of Barcelona’s most vibrant, gritty, and culturally diverse downtown neighborhoods: El Rawal.
For this highly limited capsule, they teamed up with Rotterdam legend Joren Joshua. Known for his witty, fluid line work and distinct character style, Joren has crafted a beautiful, cycling-inspired collection that perfectly bridges the gap between raw street art and bike culture.
To celebrate this exclusive drop, we’re doing what we do best: riding bikes and raising a glass.
Expect a vibey social ride, an exclusive first look at the capsule, and cold drinks to celebrate the collaboration.
