There are days on the bike when it's too cool and wet for a long sleeve jersey, but at the same time it's too hot (or your effort too intense) for a long-sleeved jacket. The Heavy Gilet is perfect for this kind of ride. This product protects you against wind and water and ensures that your core stays warm and dry.

The outer layer has a DWR coating and ensures that the gilet is windproof and water-repellent. The inner layer is made of hexagonal membrane and ensures that the jacket breathes well. The waistcoat is easily foldable and therefore easy to store. The double zipper provides good temperature regulation and access to your back pockets.

This model is 183cm and wears size M.

  • Water repellent
  • Stretchy and breathable
  • Double Layer Hexagonal Membrane
  • Windproof

The Ultimate Cycling Gilet: Defying Rain and Wind with Style

The Cycling Gilet is a game-changer! I've tried other rain and wind gear, but this gilet beats them all. Last MAATS Monday, I faced heavy showers, and this gilet kept me warm and dry. Unlike other windstoppers I've used, it actually works and keeps you dry. No more useless gear!

The gilet's rain and wind protection are top-notch. I stayed dry even in pouring rain. It also blocks the wind without making me overheat – a common issue with other gear.

The fit is perfect, not too tight, and it moves with you as you ride. Plus, it looks sleek and cool.

In short, the Cycling Gilet is a winner. If you're a cyclist, you need this gilet. It's simple – no more getting soaked or struggling with gear that doesn't deliver. This gilet rocks!

Great to hear Jerphaas, we love this gilet as much as you do. Enjoy!

Heavy Duty Moss - XL

Bought in a hurry prior to a Limburg trip. Excellent fit, perfect for taking the chill off when on the descents, and with the chilly wind. Helpful that it is also showed resistant. Nice product 👍

Gilets versus jackets

In road cycling, gilets and jackets serve distinct roles. Gilets, or vests, excel in providing wind protection and core warmth without hindering arm movement. Lightweight and packable, gilets are ideal for variable weather, easily stowed in jersey pockets. Jackets offer comprehensive protection against rain, cold, and wind, featuring thermal insulation and water-resistant properties. The inclusion of sleeves in jackets makes them particularly effective for slightly colder weather, ensuring full-arm coverage and enhanced warmth. Versatile and suitable for various weather scenarios, jackets are the go-to choice for comprehensive weather defense, while gilets shine in providing a balance of protection and flexibility in more temperate conditions.

Layer up!

Tough cookies keep on cycling in winter, also when temperatures drop to as low as below zero degrees. What to wear to keep you warm enough? Let's cut straight through to the answer: it's all about layering. With your core kept warm, you unlock the secret to riding comfortably in the harshest of weather. At Maats, we advise to adhere to ''The Three Layer Principle'', consisting of:

#1: The baselayer

This is the first and arguably most key component to keeping you warm. Various options of thermal fabrics allow you to make the right choice for the temperature you're defying that day. For instance, pick merino wool for its perfect temperature regulation capacities, or choose Polartec for state-of-the-art heat technology. Wear a snug fit to make sure the top layers won't look wrinkly.

#2: The longsleeve jersey

This middle piece may seem excessive, but let us tell you: it isn't. The longsleeve jersey is the ideal inbetween layer to add a level of temperature regulation, combined with the practical function of its pockets (as both layer #1 and #3 typically don't have these). Longsleeve jerseys come in variations from thin textiles to thermal fleece-lined fabrics. Choose what you feel aligns best with the outside temperature.

#3: The gilet or jacket

Lastly, wear a gilet or jacket over all of the above. A gilet keeps your core warm yet ventilates through your armpits, whereas a jacket's sleeves not only keep your body warmth, but also cover your arms to cold riding wind. The great thing about this third layer is that you can wear it (partly) unzipped to cool down, or get rid of it altogether during your ride. Lightweight gilets/jackets typically can be stowed easily into a back pocket of your jersey.
Now don't think this is it: treat yourself to a thermal long bib, and take care of your extremities by adding a beanie, a neck tube, gloves, thermal socks, overshoes and what not. At Maats, we have it all! ;)

Canvas

The world is your canvas, so go and ride it.

Left, right, north or south, you decide. Choose corners, cobbles, or climbs. No matter how far or hard you go, as long as you go. Headspace, adventure, a chat or suffering full gas. Whatever it is that drives your ride, you’ll find it just around the corner. Now get out there.
Canvas is made to make your ride as comfortable as possible. Yes, our kit will make you look good, but you’ll appreciate smart details like a waterproof pocket, reflective logos and the soft fabrics. The fit is snug but not racy and you can complete your outfit from head to toe. All Canvas garments are produced in the EU and sold exclusively through Maats.

The story behind the brand

Next to home brand Maats, founders Rob & Joost gathered a team of apparel experts and started the brand Canvas in 2019. All kit is designed in Amsterdam and made in Europe.
