Sundays are for riding, discovering new routes and meeting new friends. Maats has got you covered! On this page you'll find the rides we host from our store in Amsterdam.
How does it work?
We organize our socials rides for our customers and to introduce new people to Maats and the brands we sell.
During our social rides we offer you two routes: a longer route of approximately 90 km and a shorter version of approximately 65 km. On the day itself you can choose which distance you want to go ride.
Longer distances are a bit faster (30-32 km/h avg.) and this option is therefore for more advanced cyclists. The pace at the shorter distance is slightly slower (28-30 km/h avg.) and therefore more relaxed and accessible.
What is the level?
Although we love all cyclists, our rides are not for absolute beginners. If you register for our rides, we expect you to be able to ride at least 28 km/h in a group for a minimum of 2+ hours. Experience with group rides is a plus but not a requirement.

We'd like to introduce you to the Maats Gravel Series: a new series of gravel events with the most beautiful off-road routes in the Netherlands. From November to March, we host a monthly gravel ride in a different part of our country.
At Maats we are big fans of gravel rides. Whereas road cycling is more about speed, distance and performance, a gravel bike gives you the freedom to choose any path you encounter, making it more about exploring, adventure and fun.
In the past, riding a gravel route from our original store location in Amsterdam posed quite a challenge, and that's why we are so happy with our shop in Utrecht. Finally we have a place where you are on the first unpaved section within a few kilometers.
During the autumn and winter months, we proudly organize the Maats Off-Road Social. Because it can be busy in the surroundings of Utrecht, spots are limited: with a maximum of 25 participants, we ride in small groups of 5-6 people. Start and finish at Maats Utrecht. Curious about the routes? Check our Komoot collection page. We pick one of these routes for the event.

Powered by Maats in collaboration with Pas Normal Studios.
This weekend is all about our friendship and collaboration with the Danish brand Pas Normal Studios. On Saturday, we organise our yearly Plus One Race together, and on Sunday, the day after, it is time to have fun together and do a relaxed social group ride of approx. 60/70 km. We treat you to a half way stop with drinks and snacks, powered by both the Maats and PNS Sprinter vans.
You can ride from both our stores (Amsterdam and Utrecht) and we meet up half way at the stop. We organise this event for Maats and Pas Normal Studios customers and community.

Sunday 21 January 2024 08:30h
Start and finish: Maats Amsterdam, van Woustraat 165
January is the month of the Winter Resolution Challenge from Pas Normal Studios, a Strava initiative that challenges you to ride at least 1250 km in the first month of the year. On Sunday 21/1, we organize a long ride to boost your monthly total and achieve your goals. We also hosted this event in the beginning of 2023, and we like the idea to turn this into a yearly tradition. Check last years aftermovie here.
Everyone around Amsterdam has heard of it or rode it before: the famous and notorious Markermeer loop, a route of approximately 160 km, all day along the waterfront. It is a simple route where the only thing you have to think about is whether you are going to take it clockwise or counterclockwise, depending on the wind that day. You can find the route here.
We gather at 08:30h at Maats for coffee. After the ride briefing, we divide everyone into smaller groups for departure. The Maats Sprinter will serve as a support van, that rides with the groups, in which you can put some personal belongings (like food or extra clothing) during the stops.

In collaboration with MAAP and the Ride Beyond Crew, and in celebration of the new MAAP Atmos collection, we’re setting out to test the lungs and character – a pursuit of the sort of limits and lessons that only come when you push beyond your comfort zone.
This ride will be long, hard, and one best experienced with friends and new friends alike. The sort of Type 2 fun that usually comes with the potential of bonking* and we end up talking about with mates for years and even decades to come.
As we push ourselves to the next level, we need our gear to meet us there too. Incremental gains are the difference between betterment and stagnating. The new Atmos collection is driven by performance and versatility. The Atmos Jacket is the lightest weight all-weather jacket MAAP’s developed to date. The ultimate pieces for those in a constant pursuit of progression.

After a successful first edition last November, the Maats Checkpoint Challenge is back for its second instalment. We've found another 10 amazing checkpoints that will take you in a new direction from our Utrecht store.
This challenge (or race for some) is all about planning, route skills and teamwork. There’s no route, just 10 checkpoints (CPs) that are worth a visit for you and your teammate. You connect these checkpoints to create your own route.
Two out of ten CPs are mandatory, the other eight are optional. So it’s up to you to decide how long your route will be. If you want to check off all CPs, expect to ride approximately 200km. The shortest route along the mandatory CPs will be around 100km.
We will draw up a classification at the finish. The team that checks off all checkpoints and does so in the shortest amount of time wins the challenge.
Are you up for the challenge? Team up & and join us on Saturday March 25th in Utrecht.

Since last year, Maats proudly stocks shoe brand QUOC. At Maats we have been looking for distinctive brands with a good story and outstanding quality since day one. QUOC is a brand that meets all our requirements and we are stoked to represent it. At Maats, we sell both road and off-road QUOC shoes. This spring QUOC released their new collection which you can check here.
Together with QUOC we organize a social ride to celebrate our collaboration. Ondrej, Bonnie and James from QUOC are joining us for the ride, as well as local brand ambassadors Alberto Viciana and our own Sherry Buzzalong. We created a nice route (road) and will treat you to a coffee before the ride. Moreover, expect some nice goodies from our friends from QUOC for all participants.

Together with MAAP we will organize three events in the coming months to honor the Spring Classics. A three-fold ride series based on three different elements that make the Spring Classics unique:
This is a ride experience where we come together and adapt to constant changes in terrain, weather and unforeseen challenges that make the classics so memorable.
All these three group rides start and end at Maats Amsterdam (9:00am coffee, 09:30am roll out). The first two (Cobbles and Bergs) have a distance between 100 and 125km the third one (Go Far) will be around 200km.
We'll create multiple groups based on cycling levels - however we aim that the grouop speeds vary between 28 and 32 km/h. There is a halfway stop on all rides. A ticket is mandatory. Participation is at own risk.
We will send you all necessary info and route a few days before the event.
500 kilometers. Eight days. 24th-31st Dec. The world's favorite festive cycling challenge is back. This year we got your covered and will host the Festive500 from our Maats store in Utrecht.
Maats is the spot in the Utrecht region where you can shop Rapha and that is why we would like to be a clubhouse and facilitate people who want to challenge themselves and defy the Festive500.
We host three social rides with a distance of 100km, on 24-12, 27-12 and 30-12. You're invited to join us and conquer the Festive500 challenge.
In April 2023 it was exactly 5 years ago that we opened our store at the van Woustraat in Amsterdam. To celebrate this, we are organizing 5 amazing events this summer. These are events that are in line with the things we have done with Maats in recent years or events that we have wanted to organize for a long time and for which this is the perfect reason.
Maats x Leeman Ride - Dönerdag September 14
At the end of August 2019, together with our neighbors from Leeman Döner, we organized one of the most iconic cycling events in the history of mankind: The Maats x Leeman Ride. This summer we will host already the fourth edition and it will be an even more special one as it is part of our Maats Five Series.
Event beyond imagination.
Trust us, you don't want to miss this one...
The 2023 edition of the Maats x Pas Normal Studios race is planned for Saturday September 9th.
This event is to celebrate the collab between Maats Cycling Culture and apparel brand Pas Normal Studios from Copenhagen. Racing is in the DNA of the Danish brand and that is why we organize a Maats x PNS race in Amsterdam for the fifth year in a row already! We will make this a special festive edition.
For a previous edition's video and race report, check here.
This event is an accessible way to get in touch with racing. There are people who have experience with this, but it is also a perfect event for people who are new to racing. The race consists of a 15 minute warm-up and this is perfect for getting used to the track and to riding in a peloton. No worries about the level, it is a friendly race and suitable for most cyclists.

Who better to ask to create a local route than a Local Legend? Nathalie Simoens a.k.a. @enorm_alie is the perfect tour guide to show us Nijmegen and its surroundings. As a Nijmegen resident, she created a nice 100km local loop for us to ride. You may also knew her from writing for Racefietsblog.

Local Legend
Our local legend in Zwolle is Thijs Kroon. He visited our store in Amsterdam a couple of times, and we have always kept in touch ever since. Maybe you've seen him at one of our events. You might also know Thijs from his RideFastBikeShop and his work as a mechanic for team BEAT. All in all, we deem him to be the perfect tour guide for the Zwolle region!

Who better to ask to create a local route than a Local Legend? Meet Fleur and David. Fleur has been part of the Maats Family from the very beginning. When she lived in Amsterdam a few years ago, she came to work in our store and was on of our first members of staff. Fleur has been living with her boyfriend David for a few years now just below Maastricht.
David is a professional rider with the French team Arkea-Samsic. He has been training in the region for years and knows this area like the back of his hand. David made a nice and challenging route for Maats.

At Maats we are always looking for small, independent, boutique-style cycling- and apparel brands. We are therefore very proud that we have been selling Oskar Oatbar for a number of years. We met owner and founder Gabriel a few years ago at a PNS Brand Summit and he is without a doubt one of the nicest people we have met in the cycling game in all these years.
Gabriel has made a great film together with some friends and he would like to show it in Amsterdam. You're invited! Watch the trailer below.
Thursday April 18th - Maats Amsterdam
The concept of the film is very simple and clear: A two-day challenge in the mountains of Switzerland and northern Italy, with a lot of climbing and only 100 oatbars to eat :-) A crazy idea, beautiful mountains, yummy snacks, nothing else.
Before the screening we will do a social ride of 45km (easy pace). Ride is opential and you can also skip it and join us for the premiere.
After the film there will be an exhibition of images from the video shoot by Lorenz Gohlke.
