Saturday, May 23th, 10:00 – Liège

Earlier this year, a wonderful group of Maats Members traveled south for the 2nd edition of Maats Monday: Flanders. It was a tough day, but everyone managed to conquer the famous cobbled climbs. 

Now it's time to head out to the other mythical cycling area in Belgium: The Ardennes! The region where great titans like Tadej Pogacar, Remco Evenepoel, Primoz Roglic and many more battled for glory to win the oldest monument in cycling history: 'La Doyenne'. 

So here it is: we’re heading to the heart of Liège–Bastogne–Liège for another Belgian Classics ride: Maats Travels: Ardennes!

On Saturday, May 23th, we start in Liège, at the parking lot of hotel Ibis Liège Seraing where we will head out for a monstrous ride. Expect an epic day of cycling over the legendary climbs of La Doyenne. 

Want to be well-rested at the start? You have the option to book a hotel room at Ibis Liège Seraing from Friday (May 22nd) to Saturday (May 23th). Costs for a hotel room range between €130–€170, depending on if you want to include breakfast.

The Maats Sprinter is ready to rumble for the second season of Local Loops! This summer we're driving the van to various cities in The Netherlands and organize Maats Local Loops. We started with this concept in the summer of 2023 and hosted rides in several cities around the country. This summer we visit Den Haag, Arnhem and Haarlem.

• We gather on Sunday morning 09:30h at a near the centrum of Arnhem (t.b.c.) for coffee from our van

Local Legends

Who better to ask to create a local route than a Local Legend? We have a few friends that comes from Arnhem or live there and would like to show us around. They help us out with creating the perfect route, tell us where to stop for coffee and know where you can best finish your ride for cold beers and snacks. We will tell you more about these local legends when the date comes closer.

This year it’s 5 years ago that we opened our store at the van Woustraat in Amsterdam. To celebrate this, we are organizing a series of amazing events this summer. These are events that are in line with the things we have done with Maats in recent years or events that we have wanted to organize for a long time and for which this is the perfect reason.

Dropping - Saturday Oct 14

This is a new event based on a typical Dutch concept: a dropping. Imagine a departure in the early morning hours with a touring car to an unknown destination somewhere in the Netherlands. There are two pickup locations: Amsterdam & Utrecht. When you arrive at the location, your bike will be waiting for you and you will receive the location of the first checkpoint.

Once you’ve reached the first checkpoint, the location of the next one will be revealed, and so on. Five checkpoints later and about 150km further you will arrive back at our Amsterdam store where we will draw up the results. This event is not just about speed; route skills, navigation and the ability to improvise will play important roles. Eternal glory awaits at the finish line...

When we started Maats a few years ago, Monday was our only day off for a long period. Because we started Maats from the love for cycling, there was always riding that day. On the day when most people were in the office or at work, we rode our bikes every Monday. Maats Monday was born.

In recent years we rode some cool routes during Maats Mondays. We often got the question from people if they could join. Thats why we are organizing the Maats Monday: Limburg Edition, on Monday August 31th.

Would you like to ride with us on Maats Monday? Take a day off, buy a ticket and arrange your transport to Limburg. We'll see you there for a wonderful day of cycling.

Pizza Season is back! 

Maats Pizza Rides have always been a staple in our events, and we also would like to introduce this tradition for our newest store in Rotterdam! We organize a Pizza Ride in Rotterdam every 3 weeks. We invite you to this open group ride of about 45-55k, after which you can enjoy a delicious pizza and an ice cold beer on your return.

Maats loves to ride, sharing time together on the bike to connect, to meet new people and catch up with friends. Maats invites you to join our Utrecht community rides!

What is our Advanced Ride? 

This ride is meant for more experienced riders, who are comfortable with maintaining a faster pace.

• Faster pace, average speed: 30-32 km/h
• Cruising speed (on longer straight segments): ~34-35 km/h
• Route length varies between 70-80 km
• This ride type is a bit more challenging, but still meant as a community ride where a no drop policy applies.
  
• Ride leaders will still lead the ride but do not ride at the front all the time - all riders can take turns to ride at the front position. 

If someone is struggling, we'll bring the pace down a little bit. If some people have to wait at a traffic sign, we all wait at the other side of the street. In Dutch there is a saying: “Samen uit, samen thuis”, which means we’ll stick together and leave no one behind, from departure till arrival. 

General Rules

• Helmet & click pedals are mandatory
• Make sure you're aware of the signaling on the bike (voor, tegen, paaltje etc.)
• Respect the indicated pace 

• Respect traffic rules

What is the level? What do we expect from you? 

Although we love all cyclists, Maats Rides might be unsuitable for absolute beginners. If you register for our rides, we expect you to be able to ride continuously (no breaks) for a minimum of 2+ hours on the indicated paces. Experience with group rides is a plus but not a requirement.

Routes:

The routebook for our rides consists of approx. eight fixed routes that are well planned and recon'ed from time to time. Route lengths vary from 70-80km. Routes are designed for variety, safety and an optimal riding experience with groups. Routes will not be adjusted midway unless there are construction works etc. This will always happen in consultation with the ride leader.

How to join: 

By scanning or clicking the below QR-code, you will enter the Maats Utrecht Community Ride Whatsapp group, where all weekly rides will be announced. In this group, you can indicate if you want to join a ride by responding to a poll. This poll will be posted a couple of days before the ride. After that, all further details will be shared in this group, such as a GPX file, a route link to Komoot, who are your ride leaders, etc.

In April 2023 it was exactly 5 years ago that we opened our store at the van Woustraat in Amsterdam. To celebrate this, we are organizing 5 amazing events this summer. These are events that are in line with the things we have done with Maats in recent years or events that we have wanted to organize for a long time and for which this is the perfect reason. Midsummer Race - Friday June 30

When you think of bike races you automatically come to club races. Individual, performance driven and straight home after the race. We think it would be cool to make a combination between racing and also a bit of community and fun. That is why we organize a Midsummer race on friday evening, followed by a bbq and some drinks with friends. 

We gather at 19:00 at sports park de Weren in Amsterdam Noord. After a short ride briefing, we ride as a group for a warm-up period for 30 minutes. After ringing the bell, we ride a race of 60 minutes for the men and 45 minutes for the women (combined in one race). Afterwards prize ceremony, beers and burgers from the Maats Bus.

Don't feel like racing but want to watch and cheer on the riders? Buy a Spectator ticket for cheering and the bbq.

For who is this race? For all Maats customers/community members who like to race and test themselves on a closed circuit, with or without race experience.

Sunday 25 October · 09:00 · Maats Rotterdam

Check your Flybys from the past few years and chances are Noa’s in there. On a group ride, a Sunday loop, or just rolling past the store.

Noa has been at the heart of Maats Rotterdam from the start. She built the foundations, grew our community from the ground up, and made the store a place where riders feel at home. After a few great years, she’s off to her next chapter.

Don’t worry, she’s not going anywhere. Noa is a big part of the Rotterdam cycling scene, and you’ll keep crossing paths with her in and around Maats. But this Sunday is her one and only official goodbye tour, and we want to give it the send-off it deserves, together with the whole Maats RTM community.

Saturday November 7 - Utrecht

To celebrate the launch of the AW26 PAS Collection, we’re hosting the PAS Team Time Trial: a 126 km gravel training day built around teamwork, competition and the rhythm of a good group ride.

We ride out and back together as a group, from Bar Pleur into the Utrechtse Heuvelrug and the Veluwe. Along the way there are three timed gravel segments of around 10 km each, ridden in pairs. On each one you and your teammate give it everything. After every segment the whole group regroups and rides on together.

There’s coffee at De Proloog in Amerongen and a stop at the PNS van on top of the Goudsberg. We finish at Maats Utrecht Store with drinks, results and prizes for the fastest women’s pair and the fastest men’s pair.

Running isn't always about chasing heart rates or grinding through intervals. Sometimes it's about finding rhythm, stepping into nature, and sharing miles with a like-minded community.

Together with Pas Normal Studios, we’re hosting a social run to celebrate the launch of their PNS Balance collection. Designed for movement beyond pure competition, Balance focuses on versatility, comfort, and the seamless transition between running, lifestyle, and active recovery.

We’ll head out from our Amsterdam store for an easy-going morning run, offering two different distance and pace options so everyone can find their zone. No pressure, no podiums—just good vibes, crisp morning air, and great people.

Maats x Alba Optics

October 17 - Maats Amsterdam

On Sunday, thousands of runners will take on 21.1 or 42.2 km through Amsterdam, chasing PRs and checking their splits every kilometre. The day before, we’re doing it our way: on two wheels and without looking at the watch.

It’s a social ride with Alba Optics, a brand that has never cared about finishing first. Alba’s story started with an original Italian frame mould from the 80s, which they brought back with new technology to make their first model, the Delta. Since then they’ve stood for riding that’s about quality of life, not performance: getting wherever you want, in any condition, and looking good doing it. Maats has backed that idea from day one, and we’ve been proud partners for almost ten years. We just getting started.....

So leave the gels at home and bring your best shades. No splits, no podium, just a good morning on the bike with good people.

Sunday September 6th — Maats Utrecht

A collaboration between Maats and YouTube creator Mark Heij, supported by ROSE Bikes.

This is a social ride — we ride together, we finish together. But don't let that fool you. The Maats Advanced series isn't for the faint-hearted. We roll at 32 km/h average, and the route takes us straight to the Amerongse Berg.

No one gets left behind. But you will be pushed.

And somewhere on that climb, things get interesting. Because there are four prizes up for grabs — fastest man, fastest woman, slowest man and slowest woman over the segment. Without touching the ground, obviously.

Full gas or razor-sharp balance. Pick your weapon.

The rest of the ride is for you. This segment is for the glory — and the prizes.

Daytripping Albion X Maats - Saturday August 1 - 8:30 AM - Maats Amsterdam

We are proud that Albion brings there Daytripping ride series to Maats!

The route is designed by ultra racer and Albion ambassador Leanne Bentley, taking us on some of her favourite training routes.

Meetup is at 8:30 a.m. at Maats Amsterdam, we will make a small breakfast and coffee for everyone. We start our ride around 9am.

We start our route heading East out to the woods and gravel path of The Veluwe, before taking in Let de Stigterpad, one of the most beautiful cycling route of the Utrechtse Heuvelrug. We will make a stop at Maats Utrecht to refill bottles and take on some final nutrition, before the final parcours back to Maats Amsterdam for Pizza and Beer!

A drop bar bike with 35mm+ tires is recommended. A pump and spare tube are also mandatory.
